This program is specifically created to provide scholarships for Sub-Saharan African students to study at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Canada.

A Mastercard Foundation scholars program allows them to pursue their master’s degree in a Canadian university.

The University of British Columbia University 2024 offers the following programs.

Faculty of Forestry: Master of Geomatics for Environmental Management (MGEM), Master of Sustainable Forest Management (MSFM), and Master of International Forestry (MIF).

The Master of Food and Resource Economics (MFRE), Master of Food Science (MFS), and Master of Land and Water Systems (MLWS) programs are offered by the Faculty of Land and Food.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the MasterCard Foundation Scholarship Program, applicants must:

  1. Apply for the Master’s degree programs listed above.
  2. Have completed a bachelor’s degree.
  3. Cannot have a graduate or PhD degree;
  4. Be 35 years old or younger at the time of application (born in 1988 or later).
  5. Applicants must be citizens of Sub-Saharan African countries.
  6. Have spent a significant amount of time in a Sub-Saharan African country.
  7. current economically adverse financial circumstances.
  8. Have achieved academic achievement under tough conditions.
  9. Demonstrate leadership qualities or potential.
  10. Commit and show an interest in giving back to their own community.
  11. Be an applicant who needs a Canadian study permit to study in Canada.
  12. Not requesting asylum or protected person status after landing in Canada; Be commit to returning to Africa to use their training and skills to the benefits of others
